Dear Daat Emet staff,

I wanted to ask why you don’t publish material like CDs, tapes and videocassettes, and a single book that would include all the (vast) material which is on your site. Outreach professionals publish all the above, and I see that their material is very accessible to the general public. I hope to see your book in bookstores, to hear and see your tapes and CDs with great pleasure, and, of course, to pass them along.

Thanks,

Tal

Dear Tal,

Your suggestion is excellent and brilliant, but implementing it requires financial resources.

Anyone who finds the publication and distribution of Daat Emet material benefits the Israeli society in terms of education, values, economics, and security — in terms of its continuing democracy — must contribute as much as he can for his own sake and for the sake of his children.

The State of Israel, the establishment, does not want secular ideas which contradict religion: they fund educational systems which reject a democratic outlook but will not fund organizations which champion a secular Jewish identity which contradicts religion. They will introduce rabbis into the army to speak in the name of religion, but not Daat Emet lecturers to speak in the name of a secular Jewish identity. The Israel Prison Service brings lecturers for a religious lifestyle who speak against the values of the enlightened world, but object to bringing lecturers who reveal the nakedness of religion! (I have spoken to the educational director of the Israel Prison Service, and she freely admitted that she would invite rabbis, but not lecturers from Daat Emet. Though she personally would be pleased to invite Daat Emet, she would not dare to, for her superiors would fire her…)

We need financial resources in order to have a labor force which can dedicate its time to these necessary activities!!!

The establishment will not fund organizations like Daat Emet, so support can only come from the public itself, those who want to create a social revolution, a Jewish secular state which champions the culture and values of the first (secular) Zionists.

For some reason most people think that ideology is nourished solely by volunteers, but that’s just not so!

Daat Emet’s ideology must come forth from all Israeli homes, and for this we need aid and support. Without support we cannot implement that which we hold most dear.

If you, your friends, your relatives, and everyone who knows you were to contribute 50 or 100 shekel a month, we could publish tapes and books, hold seminars and lectures, until there would be no houses left in Israel which did not know what secularism is.

Sincerely,

Daat Emet
