The demons and spirits were born from Adam

Adam became a father only at the age of 130. It is written, “And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begat [a son] in his own likeness, after his image, and called his name Seth” (Genesis 5:3). One of the sages, Rabbi Jeremiah the son of Elazar, argued that though Adam had produced no children until the age of 130, he had begat demons in the form of man, spirits with no form or body, and female demons in the form of a person with wings. He based his claim on the verse above. The Scriptures emphasize that until the age of 130 Adam had no children who shared his likeness and his image. It states “in his own likeness, after his image,” implying that before the age of 130 Adam did not beget in his own likeness and image, but he did beget demons and spirits which were not in Adam’s likeness and image. The scholars asked: How did Adam beget demons and spirits before the age of 130; the early sages claimed that Adam did not have sexual contact with Eve for 130 years? Answer: True, Adam did not have sexual intercourse with Eve, but he did have unbidden seminal emissions, as is the way amongst men, and from these seminal emissions were created the demons, spirits, and female demons.
