How do you relate to what is written on the level of sod?

Everything you say is based on the Talmud. Have you looked into the Zohar and into Chassidut? Your claims are very intellectual, but it is through the emotions we can get answers.

Is it all nonsense? If so, why do even gentiles (Madonna, for example) take an interest in it?

Sincerely,

Rachel

Dear Rachel,

Our relationship to any written text is critical. All writings are measured through reason. Thus do we act with an academic text or a theological text. This is the rule for imaginative works written on subjects which are not given to scientific and critical examination.

Since the teachings of sod deal with issues no human can absorb, there are two possibilities for the authors of those teachings. Either they are at a spiritual level which means they can know what happens behind the scenes or they are mentally unstable and need psychiatric help to reconnect them with reality.

Since the Zohar includes stories which are not connected to reality and his words about physical reality in this world are mistaken and misleading, the second possibility seems closer to the truth.

The proof you bring through Madonna is puzzling. What advantage do you find in fools being swept away by the secretive? Is this not the foolishness of the common man, to accept the hidden and puzzling instead of the simple and clear? Maimonides wrote (Guide to the Perplexed part two, chapter six) “Say to a person who is believed to belong to the wise men of Israel that the Almighty sends His angel to enter the womb of a woman and to form there the fetus, he will be satisfied with the account: he will believe it, and even find in it a description of the greatness of G-d’s might and wisdom; although he believes that the angel consists of burning fire, and is as big as a third part of the Universe, yet he considers it possible as a divine miracle. But tell him that G-d gave the seed a formative power which produces and shapes the limbs, and that this power is called ‘angel,’ or that all forms are the result of the influence of the Active Intellect, and that the latter is the angel, the Prince of the world, frequently mentioned by our Sages, and he will turn away.” According to Maimonides people have a tendency to accept the strange and secretive over the simple laws of nature. He said this about those considered among the wise; how much more so does it apply to Madonna (and to John Travolta, who champions Scientology) and the other fools who are tempted by their own imaginations.

Our claims are indeed based in the intellect and reason, which is the public domain. It is universal and belongs equally to all men; physics and math are intelligible to all. This is not the case for emotions; they are the private property of a person and are not equally held by all. One man’s emotions are not like any other’s.

See our response to The Kabbalistic teachings are an escape for the masses.

We apologize, but we cannot keep up with the many questions and reactions we receive. We make every effort to respond as quickly as possible.

N.B. Let me ask you: Why does G-d hide His words and even write the opposite of what He means?

Sincerely,

Daat Emet
