If the Torah is a lie, by what right are we living in the Land of Israel?

Dear Reuben,

Every person has the right to a home, with all the meaning of that term. The Jewish nation [those who shook off the commandments and did not accept the reality of exile as a Heavenly decree] grew disgusted with the reality of exile in which they felt like strange fruit in a land that was not theirs.

There is nothing more natural and human than a man wanting to live in a place where he feels security, freedom, and liberty.

The Jewish people’s natural sense, throughout the generations, of belonging to the Land of Israel from which it was exiled is the reason for the Zionist movement and the establishment of a national home for the Jewish nation.

We are not here because of the Torah, but despite it, in merit of the secular view which states “If I am not for myself, who will be?”. We do not rely upon G-d to save us from our troubles. Were we to rely upon the Torah and the rabbis we would still be in the exile, according to the opinion of Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman: “Our entire power and existence is in being separate, and woe be us if we seek to be those who give chase. One of the three vows G-d made Israel promise was that we would not rebel against the nations. They [the secular] rely upon power and we [the Charedi] upon the name of G-d which we speak.”

Sincerely,

Daat Emet
